Visiting Scholar Seminar with Forrest Nabors: "Natural Justice and the Extended Republic"

The School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership welcomes Forrest Nabors to Arizona State University for a faculty and student seminar.

Dr. Forrest Nabors is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is author of From Oligarchy to Republicanism: The Great Task of Reconstruction, which won the award for best book in American Political Thought in 2017. He earned his doctorate in political science at the University of Oregon and is a former business executive in high technology.

Seminar Topic: The purpose of the extended republic was not only to prevent the ascendancy of unjust factions, but also to increase the probability that natural justice would become the ruling principle of the United States. James Madison and Aristotle have similar views on what natural justice is, but Aristotle believed that a just political regime could only endure as long as the life of a just king or aristocracy.
