Students

Incomplete Contracts

  • The grade of “I” (Incomplete) can only be given by an instructor when a student, who is doing otherwise acceptable work, is unable to complete a course (e.g., final exam or term paper) because of illness or other conditions beyond the student’s control. Unfinished work must be completed with the same instructor except under extenuating circumstances. The completion date is determined by the instructor but may not exceed one calendar year from the date the mark of “I” is recorded. Refer to the current Catalog for further details.
  • If a student contacts you to request an Incomplete grade it is completely up to faculty discretion to grant the incomplete. If you chose to give an “I” please ensure that both you and the student has filled out the Incomplete contract and emailed it to [email protected] for archiving.
  • You can access undergraduate and graduate incomplete contracts here.

Contact the Deans of Students

Are you concerned about a student? Please fill out a Student Care Form if you have a concern about a student. You can report anything from basic needs to sexual misconduct/harassment. This is the same form you need to fill out for mandatory reporting.

  • You can download the ASU LiveSafe mobile app to receive alerts and advisories, find a campus bike valet, etc.
  • You can even use the app to send an emergency 911 text or call ASU Police dispatch.

Center for American Civics

The Center for American Civics is a nonpartisan outreach center under the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership that works with K-12 educators and students to strengthen students' knowledge of American civics and civil discourse skills.

Current Programs:
Civic Literacy Curriculum - SCETL's civic education content has been adapted for use in K-12 schools to help students study and prepare for the U.S. Citizenship Test that many states (including Arizona) require students to pass for graduation, going much deeper with civic education than the facts on this test alone. A team of expert K-12 teachers designed over 500 lesson plans for classroom use aligned to this content for each grade level (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, High School, and Adult Learners). All of this content is provided for free. Questions? - Contact Liz Evans or Jeff Davis

Arizona Constitution Project - These resources support teaching and learning on the Arizona Constitution and our state history and government. The project includes an "Essential" abridged version of the Arizona Constitution, explanations of its key provisions by SCETL faculty, lesson plans and teaching resources for use in K-12 classrooms on 9 different topics that are keys to understanding our state government, and podcast episodes with mini-lectures that align to the content. Questions? - Contact Liz Evans or Jeff Davis

Civics in a Year Podcast - This is a fast-paced podcast series that delivers essential civic knowledge in just 10 minutes per episode. To celebrate America 250, we are exploring 250 key questions, from the founding documents and branches of government to civil liberties, elections, and public participation, featuring scholarly experts on each topic. Questions? - Contact Liz Evans

Arizona Civics Podcast - This podcast aims to share our journey of sustaining Arizona’s interests in reforms to civic education by working with civic educators in our state. Episodes explore topics of interest to civic educators in Arizona, and will interview Arizona teachers, content experts, and leaders in civic education as we work to make Arizona a model for civic renewal. Questions? - Contact Liz Evans

K-12 Educator Workshops - We host K-12 teachers at various professional development events where they can learn from SCETL scholars, expert teachers, or other experts with our partner organizations. We also work with schools and school districts to coordinate in-house professional development for teachers at their school site. These events are designed to increase their content knowledge in American civics, and/or their practical application of strategies for teaching civics. Questions? - Contact Jeff Davis or Liz Evans

Veterans Inspiring Patriotism - Many American military veterans have volunteered with this program to make themselves available to K-12 schools as guest speakers. These vets tell their stories about why they chose to serve, their experiences in the service, and what service to their country has meant to them.  Questions? - Contact Jeff Davis

Civic Leadership Institute - SCETL hosts a group of high school students at ASU's Tempe campus in the summer for a week-long civic learning experience, featuring lectures from our faculty, curated readings from America's civic traditions, discussions, interactive activities and simulations, and support from expert high school teachers. Questions? - Contact Liz Evans or Jeff Davis
