Cultivating Community: Alumni Engagement at The Civics School
As SCETL continues to grow and evolve, so does our commitment to building a vibrant, connected alumni community. Alumni engagement is a vital part of our mission, not only because our graduates carry the values of civic thought and leadership into the world, but because they remain essential partners in shaping the school’s future. This year, we are excited to take important steps forward in strengthening these connections and expanding opportunities for meaningful alumni involvement.
One of the most energizing developments is the appointment of an Alumni Advisor to the SCETL Alumni Relations Committee. For this academic year, we have appointed Sami Al-Asady, a recent graduate whose leadership and enthusiasm have made a lasting impression on our faculty and staff, who is eager to stay involved and help build a stronger alumni community. His initiative could not have come at a better time.
Sami’s firsthand student experience, commitment to service, and passion for civic leadership make him an ideal partner in this work. In this new volunteer advisory role.
Our appointed alumni advisor(s) will support several key initiatives designed to cultivate engagement and foster a sense of belonging among our growing network of graduates.
Alumni volunteers will play a leading role in:
- Launching our new quarterly community newsletter, The Civics Compact
- Help shape a dedicated alumni section featuring stories, career milestones, and accomplishments.
- Serving as our Alumni–School Liaison
- Supporting the planning and promotion of our Spring Conference, including exploring an alumni reception or dinner surrounding the event.
- Helping build our digital alumni network, beginning with our new LinkedIn alumni group, where they will help foster engagement, share opportunities, and connect former students.
We are grateful for Sami’s willingness to step into this new volunteer role and help us strengthen our community. His leadership symbolizes what makes The Civics School special: students and alumni who continue to invest in the civic life of our school long after graduation.
